Garrell Joseph "Joe" Hash

Garrell Joseph "Joe" Hash, 78, passed away suddenly in the early hours of Sunday, July 12, 2026, at his home in Linton, the town where he was born and felt most at home. Born on September 7, 1947, in Linton, Indiana, he was the son of Garrell A. and Betty Jo (Bentley) Hash.

Joe was a graduate of Eastern High School with the Class of 1965. Shortly after, he answered his country's call and proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, an experience that shaped his deep sense of duty, loyalty, and appreciation for home. After returning from service, Joe married the love of his life, Linda (Gage), on November 7, 1970, beginning more than 55 years of marriage built on patience, humor, and quiet devotion. Together, they raised their family with firm values, a strong work ethic, and an open door to anyone who needed a hot meal, a listening ear, or a place to sit and visit.

Following 38 years of faithful employment, Joe retired from AT&T as a lineman and repairman, spending long days in all kinds of weather to keep others connected. He took pride in doing the job right, rarely complained, and earned the respect of his coworkers through his steady reliability and willingness to help.

Deeply rooted in his community, Joe was a member of Solsberry Eastern Star, the Linton American Legion Post #22, and the Linton Masonic Lodge #560. He spent decades giving the Masonic Memorial at area funeral homes, a meaningful role he learned as a young man from his father and carried on with reverence and care. It was important to him to honor others at the end of their earthly journey, just as he will now be honored by his brothers.

Joe had a lifelong love of sports, especially when they involved his children and grandchildren. He coached his kids in softball, umpired countless ball games, and served as a basketball referee for many years, always trying to be fair even when the calls weren't popular. In later years, his greatest joy was sitting in the stands watching his grandchildren play, cheering them on, and then talking over every play afterward. Whether at the ball field, the gym, or around the kitchen table, time with his grandchildren was where he was happiest.

Above all, Joe was a family man. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 55 years, Linda Hash; his son, Paul (Kerri) Hash; and his four daughters, Tina (Jack) Lillie, Sandi (Dave) Tschudny, Brianna (Delbert) Enlow, and Mary (Doug) Duncan. He was a proud and loving grandfather to twelve grandchildren: Megann, Joseph, Justin, D.J., Kelsey, Kaiden, Braiden, Aleayah, Thea, Emmett, Kenzie, and Madison, with another precious grandchild expected in December. He was also blessed with twenty great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and is survived by his sister, Susan (Wes) Schroyer, who shared in his memories and family history.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Garrell A. and Betty Jo (Bentley) Hash, and he now joins them in eternal rest.

Funeral services will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton, of Walton Funeral Service, at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 17, 2026. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton. Military honors provided by the American Legion Post #22 in recognition of his service to his country.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Friday from 12:00 noon until the time of service.
