Arkie L. Vandeventer
/Arkie L. Vandeventer, 82, of Worthington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at the Greene County General Hospital in Linton. Arkie was born on December 25, 1937 in Highland Township in Greene County, Indiana to Richard M. and Carol K. (Price) Vandeventer.
Arkie attended Calvertville grade school then graduated from Worthington-Jefferson High School in 1956. He held a B.S., M.S., and E.D. degree from Indiana State University and taught in the Northeast Sullivan School Corporation for 34 years, serving as Principal at North Central High School for 14 of those years. Arkie was a member of the Folsom Memorial United Methodist Church in Worthington, where he served on the Board of Trustees for many years. He was a 50 year member of the Greene County Masonic Lodge #84. Arkie was a member of the Worthington-Jefferson Township Library Board where he served as president for several years.
Arkie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Earlene (Corya) Vandeventer whom he married on March 15, 1958; one son, Todd L. and wife Sherry Vandeventer, daughter, Mindy S. Lent; grandchildren, Thad and wife Jessica Vandeventer, Garrett and wife Kelsie Vandeventer, Brenden Davidson, Ian Davidson, Mackenna Davidson, Tucker Lent; great-grandchildren, Graham, Juliet, Jacoby, Hadley, Grady; one sister, Sidney Price; one brother, Larry and wife Wanda Vandeventer and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Arkie was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, Richard Vandeventer, and brother-in-law, Raymond Price.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 25, 2020 at the Folsom Memorial United Methodist Church, 8 North Lafayette Street, Worthington. Pastor Rick Pressell will officiate. Burial will follow in Worthington Cemetery.
Visitation will be 10:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday at the Church.
