COVID-19 Area Alert issued by Greene County Health Department for Bloomfield and Solsberry

Bloomfield, Ind. - The following advisory is issued to Bloomfield and Solsberry area residents:

The Greene County Health Department has surveilled an increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks specific to the Bloomfield and Solsberry areas (78 percent of the cases reported in the last two weeks). Due to the uptick in cases, residents of these communities are urged to proceed with diligence and are cautioned to adhere to the following recommendations.

  • Seniors and individuals of any age with a serious chronic medical condition, who are at increased risk for severe disease should avoid nonessential travel.

  • All should avoid contact with sick individuals and wash their hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol.

  • All should avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, and wear a mask in public.

  • If you are sick, stay at home. Work with family and friends to have food, hygiene and medical supplies delivered until you are well.

If everyone adheres to the recommendations listed above, we can effectively reduce the spread of the virus.

The Greene County Health Department will continue to issue area alerts and will notify the public when the spread has been successfully reduced in your local area.

WPD hires new deputy marshal; Worthington Town Hall reopens to foot traffic, masks mandatory

During a special meeting of the Worthington Town Council late last Friday, a WPD reserve officer was hired to be a full-time Deputy Marshal for the Worthington Police Department.

During the last regular monthly meeting of the Council earlier in the week, WPD Deputy Marshal Brittany Allen submitted her resignation leaving a full-time spot open on the department.

To stop into the vacant spot, Reserve Officer Hunter Golden was selected, according to Council President Tom Franklin.

Franklin said Golden had already gone through the application and interview process when the Council was looking for candidates earlier this year.

“Hunter has been working as a reserve for a few weeks now and shows a lot of promise,” said Franklin.

The special meeting was conducted at 5 p.m. last Friday, July 17.

Franklin said Golden will start full-time duties on Saturday, July 25.

In other matters taken up by the Council last week, the Council announced that Town Hall in the Worthington Municipal Building was expected to be open to foot traffic from the public starting today, Monday, July 20.

“Masks must be worn in the building,” said Franklin. “Anyone not wanting to wear a mask may still use the outside drop box.”

The Council also announced they will start to reopen council meetings to the public starting next month.

“The August meeting of the Council will be open to a limited number of citizens,” said Franklin. “Masks and social distancing will be mandatory. Anyone wishing to attend should call Town Hall and ask to be placed on the agenda.”
