Yelling passenger jailed for making unreasonable noise during a midnight traffic stop in Worthington
/A passenger in a vehicle, who police say would not stopping yelling during a midnight traffic stop in Worthington, wound up in jail on a disorderly conduct charge.
Jeffery Ray Adams, 46, of Bloomfield, has been charged with disorderly conduct involving unreasonable noise, a Class B misdemeanor.
Deputy Marshal Russell Walls of the Worthington Police Department said his dash-mounted radar showed a brown and tan Ford Ranger pickup was speeding at 54 mph in a marked 45 mph zone.
After the vehicle was stopped, Jasonville Police Officer Andrew Duguay and his K9 Blitz arrived to assist along with Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Bobby Pierce.
Then K9 Blitz alerted to the odor of narcotics in the vehicle and Walls asked the driver, Clarence Adams, and two passengers including Jeff Adams, to step out of the truck. In a probable cause affidavit prepared by Walls, there is no indication that any illegal substances were located.
However, as the three officers and three occupants were standing outside their vehicles, Walls said Jeff Adams started yelling. When Walls asked him to lower his voice, Jeff Adams apologized and quieted down but then started yelling again.
It was 12:17 a.m. on Sunday, May 6, when the traffic stop was initiated at the corner of Canal and Union streets in Worthington.
Walls wrote that he asked Jeff Adams to calm down and lower his voice again, and he reported driver Clarence Adams also told Jeff Adams “the officers were just doing their job and to pipe down.”
According to the affidavit, when Jeff Adams started to raise his voice the third time to yell some more, Jeff Adams was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police vehicle.
His bond was set at $500 surety with ten percent allowed. He paid $50 cash to bond out the same day and his case is pending in Greene Superior Court.
