Worthington woman arrested after allegedly firing gun during domestic dispute

A Worthington woman was arrested early Saturday morning after deputies investigating reports of gunfire allegedly learned she fired multiple rounds during a domestic dispute and struck an individual during an argument.

Kyla Mackenzie Calhoun, 33, of Worthington, was arrested at 1:08 a.m. June 20 on preliminary charges of criminal recklessness, disorderly conduct, domestic battery and public intoxication. No bond was allowed.

According to a probable cause affidavit, deputies with the Greene County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the area of Lessie Street in Worthington shortly before midnight June 19 after a caller reported hearing gunshots and yelling. Upon arrival, deputies encountered Calhoun and several other individuals outside a residence. Deputies noted Calhoun had blood on her arms, legs, and midsection and appeared agitated.

During the investigation, witnesses allegedly reported hearing gunshots and seeing Calhoun involved in an argument. Deputies later made contact with a male victim who told investigators he and Calhoun had argued and that she struck him in the head. The victim also alleged Calhoun followed him outside with a handgun and began firing it as he walked away. According to the affidavit, he said Calhoun threw the gun at him after it ran out of ammunition.

Investigators recovered a 9mm handgun, ammunition, and spent shell casings during the investigation.

After being advised of her rights, Calhoun allegedly admitted firing the handgun into the air. Deputies reported that Calhoun stated she had consumed alcoholic beverages earlier in the evening, and a preliminary breath test reportedly showed a blood alcohol concentration of .145.

Court documents indicate Calhoun told investigators she fired the weapon to get attention and denied pointing it at anyone. She also acknowledged throwing the firearm after emptying the magazine.

Calhoun was transported to the Greene County Jail, where she was booked and held without bond.
