Jesse Dale Adams, 22, was driving a black 2001 Mitsubishi Galant four-door car on State Road 157 heading away from Worthington toward Bloomfield a little before 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24.

At this time, Captain James T. Harrington of the Worthington Police Department was parked in the area of the Pryor Bridge over White River east of Worthington.

Harrington conducted a traffic stop on the car. He said he observed the car cross the fog line and drive the entire length of the bridge with the vehicle’s tires on the shoulder of the roadway.

Harrington reported Adams did not have any identification and allegedly admitted his driver’s license was suspended and that he’d smoked marijuana about five hours earlier and had ingested methamphetamine hours before that.

A female passenger also could not provide any identification. A records check later revealed she did have a learner’s permit.

Harrington reported the license plate on the vehicle had expired in July but it turned out that the plate actually belonged to a different vehicle.

The two occupants were asked to exit the vehicle. Although no contraband was found on either of them, that wasn’t the case with the vehicle. The list included green plant-like material that smelled like marijuana, a crystal substance that field tested positive as methamphetamine, a smoking device that contained white residue, pills identified as a controlled substance, baggies and other items.

The vehicle was towed and both subjects were transported to the sheriff’s department. The passenger was released after Adams claimed ownership of all contraband and items of paraphernalia.

Adams agreed to submit to a chemical test and was transported to Greene County General Hospital for a blood draw – results are pending.

Harrington reported a records check on Adams revealed he’s never been convicted of OVWI, drug or paraphernalia-related offenses but he’s been convicted three times for driving while suspended, one time in each of Greene, Owen and Monroe counties.

Adams was booked in to jail and was being held without bond pending his appearance in court on Tuesday, October 30.

He’s being charged with:

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor,

  • Operating a vehicle with a Schedule I or II controlled substance in the body, a Class C misdemeanor,

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,

  • Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony,

  • Possession of a controlled substance, a Class a misdemeanor,

  • Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor, and

  • Possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor.
