Woman inhaling vapors from a can of Endust taken to jail

Inhaling toxic vapors from a can of dusting spray behind a Jasonville restaurant on March 9 resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old woman.

Crystal Renee Overton

Crystal Renee Overton, of Jasonville, was arrested by Jasonville Police Chief Ryan Van Horn after she was found inhaling toxic fumes behind Jack’s Place on March 9. She was also booked on a warrant from Monroe County, which was issued on Jan. 19 for failure to appear in court for an initial hearing on another case of inhaling toxic fumes.

Van Horn responded to a report from employees at Jack’s Place regarding possible drug use by a female behind the building. An employee reported Overton was inhaling from a can.

Upon Van Horn’s arrival, he located Overton leaning against a garage building behind Jack’s Place. According to the probable cause affidavit, Overton was temporarily unconscious, holding a can of Endust Multipurpose Duster. As Van Horn and Jasonville Police Department Officer Andrew Duguay were putting gloves on, Overton allegedly raised the can to her mouth and inhaled the contents. The officers were able to get the can away from her and placed her in handcuffs. Greene County Ambulance personnel were called to the scene and cleared Overton for transport to Greene County Jail.

Overton was booked into Greene County Jail where her bond was set at $500 surety with 10 percent allowed for the March 9 charge; however, no bond was allowed for her failure to appear warrant.

She appeared in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on March 13. She is being charged with inhaling toxic vapors, a Class B Misdemeanor.
