Woman facing felony theft charge for alleged shoplifting

Less than two weeks after a woman was convicted of theft, she allegedly committed another theft.

Melissa Rose Wolfe, 35, of Sullivan, accused of shoplifting and trespassing at a Linton store, is being summoned to appear in court for an initial hearing in June.

Officer John Agan of the Linton Police Department began an investigation into a shoplifting complaint in mid-March.

When Officer Agan met with one of Walmart’s Asset Protection Associates, he was provided with video surveillance that allegedly showed Wolfe selecting several cosmetic items, concealing them in her purse then leaving the store without paying for them on February 14.

The associate also showed the officer a document informing Wolfe that she was prohibited from entering any Walmart stores. The document was signed by Wolfe on August 27, 2019.

When Officer Agan contacted Wolfe and interviewed her, she allegedly admitted stealing the items, which had a total value of $47.34, and said she knew she was prohibited from going to Walmart and should not have returned there.

Officer Agan reported that when he checked Wolfe’s criminal history, he learned that she was convicted of theft in Greene Superior Court on February 3.

Wolfe is scheduled to appear in court on June 11 on preliminary charges of theft with a prior conviction, a Level 6 felony, and criminal trespassing, a Class A misdemeanor.
