Woman driver allegedly flees LPD officers less than a month after fleeing from BPD officer

A few days after a woman got a suspended sentence in a case involving using a vehicle to flee from police in Bloomfield, she allegedly used a vehicle to lead Linton officers on a pursuit that resulted in her arrest and a new set of criminal charges.

Amanda Marie Stahl, 37, Bedford, was arrested on Monday evening, March 18, by Officer Debbie McDonald of the Linton Police Department.

Around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Officer McDonald was on duty in her patrol vehicle when the manager of the Dollar Store on the west side of Linton called 911 about a couple in a verbal argument in the store’s parking lot.

McDonald attempted to locate their vehicle and knew they had left the lot heading west on State Road 54. She was not successful.

Then around 3:30 p.m., a clerk from the West Side Country Porch called dispatch about a couple that were in a physical altercation at the store’s gas pumps.

When McDonald arrived, the female driver, later identified as Stahl, and a male passenger were sitting in the car. McDonald made contact, asking the driver to step out and talk. When the driver said, “Why? We were just pumping gas,” McDonald thought she might have the wrong car so she stepped to the rear to check the plate number but as she was walking, the driver drove away at a high rate of speed.

McDonald notified dispatch the car was fleeing northbound on the highway as LPD Officer John Agan arrived at the station. Both officers then headed north with lights and sirens.

As the officers were passing County Road 1275 West, McDonald saw dust in the air and saw the car turning east onto CR 200 North. The officers turned on 200 North and McDonald said the car did not slow or stop at a stop sign for railroad tracks or for a stop sign at the intersection of CR 200 North and 1225, or at the intersection of CR 1175.

Just east of there, an SUV with two young passengers on board was pulling out of a driveway and narrowly missed a collision – the car swerved to miss the SUV.

Near the intersection of CR 200 North and 1100 West, when the car came to an abrupt stop, McDonald stopped at an angle in front of the car and Agan stopped behind.

When McDonald opened the driver’s door and told Stahl to get out of the car, Stahl said no, so McDonald grabbed her left wrist and assisted her out of the car.

McDonald reported Stahl’s vehicle reached speeds of nearly 75 mph during the pursuit. She also said Stahl was not very cooperative on the scene.

The male passenger had a large red knot under an eye, a scratch on his cheek, and the bridge of his nose was bleeding. He said Stahl had hit him several times in the face and when McDonald later interviewed the clerk at the gas station, she said other customers had told her that Stahl was hitting the passenger. She said when she looked out a window, she saw the woman hitting the man in the face.

Stahl was booked in around 9:34 p.m. to the Greene County Jail where her bond was set at $7,000 surety with ten percent cash bond. She didn’t post bond.

Stahl is now facing new charges of:

  • Resisting law enforcement using a vehicle, a Level 6 felony,

  • Reckless driving at unreasonable high speed that endangers safety, a Class C misdemeanor,

  • Resisting law enforcement – knowingly or intentionally forcibly resists, a Class A misdemeanor,

  • Domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor, and

  • Disorderly conduct – engaging in fighting or tumultuous conduct, a Class B misdemeanor.

This incident occurred less than a week after Stahl was sentenced in a case that involved fleeing from law enforcement in Bloomfield.

In the earlier case, Stahl was sentenced last Thursday, March 14, to one year in jail on a conviction of resisting law enforcement using a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony. She was given credit for 20 days served and 325 days were suspended. Other counts were dismissed.

Yesterday, on Wednesday, March 20, the Greene County Probation Department filed a petition to revoke Stahl’s suspended sentence and the court issued a warrant for her arrest. She won’t be hard to find – as of Thursday afternoon, she’s still in jail.
