Woman accused of possession of marijuana in connection with another arrest
/When Bloomfield police investigated an attempted entry into a business followed by a break-in at a residence which led to the arrest of Bloomfield man on drug charges, he said he had been staying at the home of a woman in Bloomfield. She wound up in jail too.
Ryan Wayne Botkin, 39, Bloomfield, was arrested late Monday, September 30, by Sgt. Bobby Pierce of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department following an investigation that started with the Bloomfield Police Department.
That same night, Sgt. Pierce also arrested Theresa Mae Schmitt, 55, Bloomfield, in connection with the investigation into Botkin.
Lt. Marvin Holt and Deputy Marshal Wayman JR Blazier, both from the Bloomfield Police Department, responded that night to Lynnie’s Pizza restaurant in Bloomfield because of a report that Botkin had been there, acting in an unruly manner, then left the restaurant, then attempted to break in through the back door.
While they were investigating that incident, they were notified of a residential entry on Spring Street where a homeowner said that when he got home, the back door was standing wide open and medication was missing.
Botkin was located in the area and when he was questioned, he gave vague answers but agreed to empty his pockets. Botkin said he had been staying at a residence on Nancy Avenue, the home of Schmitt, and when asked if there were any stolen items there, Botkin said no and agreed to a search of the residence if Schmitt agreed.
That’s when Sgt. Pierce got involved. He and GCSD Deputy Alan Jackson went to the residence and spoke to Schmitt. She agreed the officers could look for stolen medication. But while walking through the house, Sgt. Pierce said he smelled the odor of marijuana and Schmitt then agreed to a warrantless search of the residence.
Sgt. Pierce reported the deputies found various items of paraphernalia, prescription pills, and items with white residue. One item that was field tested showed the presence of methamphetamine.
Schmitt was taken into custody and booked into the Greene County Jail where her bond was set at $500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She posted $50 and was released.
Botkin was also booked in to jail where he was held without bond pending his appearance in court. He has since been charged with: Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, both Class A misdemeanors, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
A few days later, a criminal case was filed against Schmitt and she appeared in Greene Superior Court yesterday, October 7. She has been charged with possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
According to court records, Schmitt will be back in court at the end of October for a change of plea hearing.
