Woman accused of breaking into a Bloomfield apartment
A woman arrested last week and scheduled to be in court this week is accused of stealing a purse after breaking into an apartment in Bloomfield where someone was sleeping.
Dawn Marie Johnson, 31, Bloomfield, was arrested by Deputy Marshal Wayman JR Blazier of the Bloomfield Police Department last Tuesday, June 22.
Around 9 p.m. last Tuesday, a Bloomfield resident contacted the sheriff’s department and said Dawn Johnson had been in his apartment and had taken his girlfriend’s purse then left. The resident said the purse was then found outside his apartment.
Officer Blazier was dispatched and when he talked to the resident and his girlfriend, the resident said he came home when Johnson was leaving his apartment with a purse. He passed her in the stairwell. He alleged Johnson had broke into the apartment, went into the bedroom, tried to break into a safe, then took the purse.
The resident’s girlfriend said she was sleeping in the bedroom when a noise woke her up to find Johnson standing in the bedroom. She said when Johnson noticed her, Johnson grabbed the purse and ran out.
Officer Blazier then left to talk to three witnesses. One said she saw a woman yelling as she got into a vehicle then saw the woman throw the purse out the window as the vehicle left. Two other witnesses said they saw a woman leaving the area in a car driven by a man.
When Officer Blazier arrived at the residence of Johnson and her boyfriend and first questioned the boyfriend outside, he allegedly said he didn’t know anything when asked about what happened, why Johnson threw a purse out of their vehicle and even if Johnson was home.
But Johnson answered the door when they knocked and when asked about going to the apartment, she first said she did not go into the apartment then allegedly said they owed her $80. She claimed the door was open, she went in looking for her $80 then left. When Officer Blazier asked her about throwing a purse out the window of the vehicle, she allegedly said she had given it to the apartment resident’s girlfriend and that she didn’t steal anything. When Officer Blazier told Johnson she can not just walk into someone’s residence, Johnson allegedly said she understood and that she would not do it again.
Johnson was taken into custody and booked into the Greene County Jail around 10 p.m.
When Officer Blazier later talked to the resident and his girlfriend regarding the $80, they said they had not taken any money from Johnson.
Johnson’s bond was set at $5,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She posted $500 and was released later that night.
A criminal case was filed against Johnson in Greene Superior Court earlier today, Monday, June 28. She is facing charges of:
Residential entry – breaking and entering a dwelling, a Level 6 felony, and
Theft, a Class A misdemeanor.
Although she has bonded out of jail in this case, Johnson has another case pending against her as a result of her arrest last month. In that case she also posted bond and was released from jail. But she may end up back in jail because earlier today, in the pending case, a petition to revoke her bond was filed and if approved, a warrant could be issued for her arrest.
