Wanted man behind bars after threatening to stab himself and telling a deputy to just shoot him

A report of a vehicle continually driving around a neighborhood in eastern Greene County on March 15 ended in the arrest of a 50-year-old Bloomfield man on two warrants – one for failure to appear in court and another for a parole violation.

Lloyd Robert Turpin was arrested by Greene County Sheriff’s Department (GCSD) Deputy Sgt. Jordan Allor on March 15 on a warrant for failure to appear at his change of plea hearing in a case involving felony intimidation, misdemeanor resisting law enforcement, and refusal to aid an officer. He was also booked in on an Indiana Department of Corrections parole violation in connection with his conviction for felony possession of methamphetamine.

The caller stated a Kia Sportage had been driving around the neighborhood around Shady Lane and Shady Meadow Drive. When Allor arrived at the scene, he was informed the caller had called back stating that the vehicle Turpin was traveling in had left the area traveling south on Greene County Line Road toward North State Road 45. At the scene, Allor did not see the vehicle, so he pulled into the parking lot of the Greene County Chapel. There, he observed a small red SUV traveling from Monroe County toward Greene County at a low rate of speed. According to the probable cause affidavit, the vehicle came to a stop in the middle of the roadway. Allor activated his red and blue lights to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle pulled into a driveway in Monroe County and was attempting to back out onto the highway when Allor conducted the traffic stop.

According to the probable cause, due to Turpin’s previous threats toward law enforcement, he drew his service pistol and ordered him to exit the vehicle. Allor wrote that Turpin opened the driver’s door, although he was in the passenger seat, and began yelling. He allegedly told the officer he was not going to talk to him like that, later stating he was going to the hospital.

“I attempted to talk to Lloyd several times but he would talk over me and not listen. Lloyd then started reaching in the glove box and pulled a knife out. I told Lloyd several times to drop the knife. Lloyd told me to just shoot him,” Allor wrote in the probable cause affidavit.

GCSD Deputy Caleb Sipes arrived on the scene to assist. Sipes ordered the driver of the vehicle out and told her to walk to the officers. The driver exited the vehicle but instead of walking to the officers, she walked to the front of the vehicle. She repeatedly said Turpin needed to go to the hospital.

Greene County Sheriff George Dallaire arrived on the scene and escorted the driver away from the vehicle. Sheriff Dallaire then ordered Turpin out of the vehicle.

“Lloyd told Sheriff Dallaire that he was not going to and threatened to stab himself in the stomach,” Allor wrote.

The sheriff broke the rear passenger window of the vehicle and Allor deployed his Taser, striking Turpin. Turpin dropped the knife, and he was removed from the vehicle through the driver’s side door. During a search, Sipes located a hypodermic syringe in Turpin’s pocket.

Turpin was transported to Greene County General Hospital where he was cleared for transport to Greene County Jail.

Turpin is being held in the Greene County Jail without bond.
