Vada Abram named Freedom Festival Parade Marshal
/The Linton Freedom Festival Taskforce is proud to announce that longtime Greene County resident Vada Abram has been selected as the 2026 Freedom Festival Parade Marshal.
At 105 years old, Abram represents a lifetime of dedication to her community and embodies the spirit of the festival. A lifelong resident of Greene County, Indiana, Abram has spent her years deeply rooted in family, service, and community involvement.
Before her retirement, Abram devoted herself to raising her two children, building a legacy centered on family and care. She later continued her commitment to service by volunteering as a “Pink Lady” at Greene County General Hospital, where she provided comfort and assistance to patients and staff.
Abram’s connection to the Freedom Festival Parade is especially meaningful. By her own recollection, she has never missed a parade. For decades, she has watched the annual tradition from her spot along North Main Street, becoming a familiar and cherished presence to fellow attendees and neighbors alike.
“Vada Abram perfectly represents the heart of our community,” said Freedom Festival Taskforce Member Jathan Wright. “Her lifelong commitment to Greene County, her dedication to service, and her love for the Freedom Festival make her an extraordinary choice for Parade Marshal.”
Adding to the celebration, Abram will mark another remarkable milestone this summer, turning 106 years old in mid-July.
As Parade Marshal, Abram will lead the 2026 Linton Freedom Festival Parade, a role recognizing her lifetime of contributions and her enduring connection to one of the community’s most treasured traditions.
The Linton Freedom Festival remains one of Indiana’s longest-running Independence Day celebrations, bringing together residents and visitors each year to celebrate patriotism, history, and community pride.
