One woman from Lyons and one from Bloomfield ended up in jail after a van failed to signal a turn in plain sight of three deputies who were parked in Lyons on Monday night. The driver didn’t get a ticket, but the two are being charged with possession of methamphetamine.

Rebecca Darlene Sexton, 28, of Lyons, and Adriana Brooke Sullivan, 22, of Bloomfield, were booked in to the Greene County Jail late Monday by Greene County Sheriff’s Detective Shawn Cullison.

Sexton was the driver of a blue 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan that Det. Cullison said turned off the highway in Lyons onto West Broad Street without using a turn signal. This occurred when two fully marked sheriff’s patrol vehicles were sitting stationary on West Broad Street occupied by Det. Cullison, Sgt. Bobby Pierce and Deputy Heather Wood.

When Cullison initiated a traffic stop, Sexton said she only had a learner’s permit but the front seat passenger, who was not arrested, did have a valid driver’s license. Cullison said Sexton appeared very nervous and her hand was shaking as she handed him her ID. Sullivan was a passenger in the back seat.

Cullison said he told Sexton he was only going to give her a verbal warning on the failure to use a turn signal, but he asked if there was anything illegal in the vehicle and asked if the deputies could search the vehicle. She agreed and signed a form giving the officers consent to search.

Cullison reported that inside a purse that belonged to Sexton, they found a clear glass smoking device wrapped up in a camo bandanna, a plastic bag with a white powdery substance, a ziplock bag with a white crystal substance, two broken glass pipes, a plastic fork, a metal tool, numerous plastic straws, several empty zip lock bags and a plastic case containing a razor blade.

He reported that inside a purse that belonged to Sullivan, they found a ziplock bag with a white crystal substance and a straw.

Cullison said many of these items had white residue inside and the powdery and crystal substances field tested positive as methamphetamine.

Both Sexton and Sullivan were arrested and were being held without bond pending their appearances in court for initial hearings.

Both are facing charges of possession of methamphetamine – a Level 6 felony, and possession of paraphernalia – a Class C misdemeanor.
