ISP Bloomington District welcomes two trooper transfers
/Bloomington - Lt. Paul Bucher, commander of Indiana State Police Bloomington Post, recently welcomed Senior Trooper Kent Rohlfing and Trooper Ian Portteus to the district after they have been approved for transfer of duty assignment to the area.
These two troopers transferred into the district on Sunday, April 4, 2021, with great referrals, and Indiana State Police officials say they are excited to have them. They will serve the district which covers Monroe, Morgan, Brown, Greene, Owen, and Lawrence Counties.
S/Trooper Rohlfing is a native of Napoleon, Indiana where he graduated from Jac-Cen-Del High School in 2002. Rohlfing is no stranger to the district as he graduated from the 69th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy in December of 2008 where he was assigned to Bloomington. He left the department in December 2018 for a career opportunity in Florida until his desire to serve brought him to return to Indiana State Police in 2019. Upon his return, he was assigned the Indianapolis District covering Marion County. His vast experience includes being a Field Training Officer (FTO), working on the Meth Suppression Team, Tactical Intervention Platoon, and Controlled Tactics Instructor. Rohlfing who resides in Monroe County also has an uncle and cousin who are both Indiana State Troopers.
Trooper Portteus is an Owen County native where he graduated from Owen Valley High School in 2007. He was then accepted to the 72nd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy where he graduated in December of 2012. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the Putnamville District working primarily Clay, Putnam, and Vigo Counties. He was a member of their All Crimes Policing team along with being a member of the Tactical Intervention Platoon. He has been a K-9 Handler since 2015 and his partner Czar, a 7-year-old German Shepherd, will be accompanying him to the Bloomington District where they will continue their work on the All Crimes Policing Team. Portteus and his wife, who teaches at Owen Valley High School, have two children and reside in Spencer. His father, the late Michael Portteus served as Indiana Conservation Officer where he held the rank of Major.
Lt. Bucher stated, "I couldn't ask for two better Troopers to have transferred in than Kent and Ian, their experience, dependability, and professionalism are unmatched." Bucher continued, "Our community will benefit greatly by having them serve our citizens daily."
