Two people, who had previously been given notice by a business that they were not welcome on store property, went to the store to shop anyway. Now they are both facing a criminal charge of trespassing.

Steven Jarrett Wayne Gibson, 29, Linton, and Alexandria M. Hale, 21, Newberry, have both been summoned to appear in Greene Superior Court on May 6 for initial hearings on preliminary charges of trespassing, a Class A misdemeanor.

Det. Paul Clark of the Linton Police Department investigated a complaint of trespassing after he was dispatched to Walmart in Linton on March 29. He was told that two of Walmart’s Asset Protection Associates had observed people inside the store that had previously been given notice denying them access to Walmart property.

Det. Clark said the two employees told him Gibson and Hale were both in the store together and both had previously been given the notice. They provided the detective with copies of written and signed “Notification of Restriction from Property” forms for both Gibson and Hale. The forms specifically state, “formal notice and warning that you are no longer allowed on property owned by Walmart Stores, Inc.”

Gibson signed the notification on October 27, 2015. Hale signed the notification on March 27, 2018.

While he was at the store, Det. Clark viewed video surveillance that showed a man and a woman exiting the store and he recognized them as Gibson and Hale.
