Two men arrested for meth during Wednesday traffic stop
/Two men were arrested and are facing felony meth charges as a result of a traffic stop east of Bloomfield early Wednesday.
Damon Michael Johnson, 20, and Justin Scott Isom, 34, both of Bloomington, were arrested by Deputy Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department early Wednesday, January 27. Johnson was booked into the Greene County Jail at 12:35 a.m. Isom was booked in at 12:24 a.m.
Johnson was the driver of a white 2004 Chrysler Sebring that was eastbound on State Road 54 when Deputy Allor noticed the license plate expired in 2019. When he checked the plate through the IDACS system, he found it was not only expired, but belonged to a 1994 Chevrolet truck.
Deputy Allor initiated a traffic stop on SR 54 at the J.L. Wilson Road east of Bloomfield. Assistant Chief Andrew Duguay of the Jasonville Police Department and GCSD Deputies Michael Stanley and Sgt. Bobby Pierce also stopped to assist on the scene.
Johnson provided an identification card but said he didn’t have a registration. He did have a title for the vehicle and when he opened the glove box to get it, Deputy Allor saw a metal smoking device inside.
Johnson and his passenger, Justin Isom, were asked to exit the vehicle and Officer Duguay deployed his K-9 partner Blitz to do a free air sniff around the vehicle. K-9 Blitz gave an alert for the presence of a controlled substance.
During a search of the vehicle and the trunk, various items of paraphernalia and containers were located along with the residue of a white crystal substance and a green plant material. Some field-tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine. In addition, a digital scale with white residue was found in Isom’s pocket.
A records check revealed Johnson’s driver’s license was suspended with a prior conviction for driving while suspended in April 2020.
Both were transported to jail where they are being held without bond pending court appearances.
Johnson is facing preliminary charges of:
Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony,
Possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor,
Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor, and
Driving while suspended – a knowing violation with a prior conviction within 10 years, a Class A misdemeanor.
Isom is facing preliminary charges of:
