Two charged with meth possession

Troopers reported finding a pipe with methamphetamine residue in a bag in the back seat of a vehicle stopped for speeding on I-69 Tuesday afternoon. Two were arrested.

Chase William Meade

Abigail Elizabeth Whitehorn

Chase William Meade, 38, and Abigail Elizabeth Whitehorn, 40, were arrested by Indiana State Police Trooper Caleb Garvin on Tuesday afternoon, October 26. Whitehorn is from Bloomington. Meade was listed as homeless on the jail log but court records show he has had an address in Washington, Ind.

Meade was the driver of a silver passenger car that was stopped on I-69 around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday after Trooper Garvin clocked the car going 86 in a 70 mph zone.

While Garvin was conducting the business of the traffic stop, Trooper Richard Klun assisted with his K-9 partner Loki, in a sniff around the exterior of the vehicle, alerting to the presence of a controlled substance.

When Meade was asked if there was going to be anything illegal in the vehicle, he allegedly said no but there was a bag in the vehicle that did not belong to them. However during a search of the vehicle, the bag was found to contain a pair of Meade’s jeans, an insurance card that belonged to Meade, a pipe used for tobacco, a bag of pipe tobacco, and a glass smoking device with a white residue.

Whitehorn allegedly admitted they both smoke methamphetamine and they shared the same smoking device.

Both were transported to the Greene County Jail where they were booked in at 4:30-5 p.m. They were both held without bond pending court appearances.

Both were scheduled for initial hearings this afternoon. Meade has since posted bond and been released. As of late Thursday, Whitehorn had not yet posted bond and was still in custody.

Both Meade and Whitehorn have been charged with:

  • Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and

  • Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
