Two arrested on drug-related charges
/A traffic stop initiated on Aug. 18 after the driver crossed the center line and drove on the wrong side of the road resulted in the arrest of two men on drug-related charges.
While on patrol at approximately 1:07 a.m. on Aug. 18, Linton Police Department Officer Janzen Franklin observed a silver Chevy Silverado cross the center line and drive on the wrong side of the road on 9th Street Northeast. After initiating a traffic stop, Franklin identified the driver as Travis Umpheries, 46, of Linton. The passenger was identified as James H. Macaluso, 44, of Terre Haute.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Umphries informed Franklin he was on parole. Due to being on parole, Franklin informed Umphries that his vehicle would have to be searched. Inside a cup Umphries was holding, a small corner of a plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance was located. The substance later field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Also located were clear, white, orange, and black hypodermic needles with Macaluso’s name on them.
Both men were transported to Greene County Jail.
Umphries was initially held without bond. After appearing in Greene Superior Court on Aug. 22, a bond of $20,000 surety with 10% cash allowed was set.
Umphries was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 Felony.
Macaluso’s bond was set at $4,000 surety with 10% cash allowed. He is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court on Sept. 7.
Macaluso was charged with unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 Felony.
