Two arrested after officer looks through window and sees someone smoking meth
/When an officer arrived at a motel in Bloomfield to serve an arrest warrant on a guest, he looked in the motel room window and saw someone actively smoking meth. Two individuals were arrested.
Maranda Jean Peyton, 30, and Michael Lee Boyd, 33, both from the Bloomfield area, were booked in to the Greene County Jail early Sunday, September 2, by Deputy Marshal Jordan Allor of the Bloomfield Police Department.
There were arrest warrants out for Peyton in two cases, both involving methamphetamine, and Officer Allor had gotten a tip that she was staying at the Sleepy Hollow Motel in Bloomfield.
Within minutes, Allor arrived at the motel, shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday, September 1, to serve the warrants, assisted by Det. Shawn Cullison and Deputy David Elmore both of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, and Indiana State Police Trooper Taylor Lowery.
Peyton and Boyd were staying in Room 306 and Allor said when he looked through the window he saw Peyton lying on the bed and Boyd sitting on the edge of the bed smoking a substance from a clear glass smoking device in his mouth.
The officer knocked on the door, Boyd answered. Both individuals were ordered out of the room and they were both placed in handcuffs.
Boyd had rented the room and he gave consent for the officers to search the room and the contents.
Allor reported they found the clear glass smoking device and a small Ziploc style bag with a white crystal substance that field tested as methamphetamine. Inside a pink handbag, they also located a clear cellophane wrapper with a white crystal substance.
Peyton and Boyd were transported to the Greene County Jail.
During an interview with Peyton, she allegedly shook her head up and down in a “yes” motion when Allor talked about seeing Boyd smoking meth through the window. She said she was trying to quit and the officer said she began to cry.
During an interview with Boyd, he allegedly said what he was smoking was “THC” and then called it “dab.” When asked if the smoking device would test positive for methamphetamine, Boyd said maybe he was sold methamphetamine instead of “dab.”
Peyton was arrested on two warrants. One was issued on a petition to revoke a suspended sentence in a Greene County case involving felony possession of methamphetamine. The other was issued on a petition to revoke probation in a Morgan County case involving felony possession of methamphetamine.
In the latest case filed against her, she is facing two counts: Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and possession of paraphernalia a Class C misdemeanor.
In the case filed against Boyd, he is also facing two counts: Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and possession of paraphernalia a Class C misdemeanor.
As of early Monday, both Peyton and Boyd were still in the Greene County Jail.
