Three people, including a nine-year-old child, were injured in a head-on crash involving two vehicles after a deer entered the roadway in eastern Greene County Wednesday night.

Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Davis Aerne, the investigating officer, was dispatched to the scene on North State Road 45 near and south of the intersection with North Greene County Line Road around 6:50 p.m. last night, Wednesday, November 7.

Deputy Aerne said when he arrived, he talked to a witness who told him he was driving southbound on the highway when he saw a deer enter the roadway. The witness said when he braked to avoid striking the deer, another southbound vehicle behind him, a silver Toyota Corolla, swerved into the northbound lane and hit a northbound vehicle, a white Toyota Scion, in a head-on collision.

Jessica Cox, 30, Bloomington, was driving the silver 2013 Toyota Corolla southbound.

Heather Shelton-Good, 40, Bloomfield, was driving the white 2014 Toyota Scion northbound with one passenger on board, a nine-year-old child.

Cox was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital by the IU Health Ambulance Service with injury and pain to her abdomen, neck, spine and right hand.

Shelton-Good was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital by the Greene County Ambulance Service with injury and pain to her shoulders, pelvis, chest and leg.

The child passenger was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital by the Greene County Ambulance Service with injury and pain to the right shoulder and pelvis.

Multiple agencies responded to assist on the scene including personnel from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Eastern Fire Department, Van Buren Fire Department, Greene County Ambulance Service E-1 and the IU Health Bloomington Ambulance Service.
