Switz City man arrested on July 9 is due in court tomorrow morning
/A Switz City man is scheduled to appear in court early tomorrow morning to be formally charged with a Level 6 felony stemming from a domestic incident that occurred earlier this month.
Cody Allen Perkins, 32, Switz City, was arrested by Deputy James Carpenter of the Greene County Sheriff's Department on Saturday, July 9. Bond was set at $4000 surety with 10% cash allowed. Perkins posted $400, was released from custody on Sunday, July 10, and scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing on Thursday, July 28.
Perkins is being charged with domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old, a Level 6 felony.
Around 12:34 PM on Saturday, July 9, Deputy Carpenter was dispatched to a residence on West 2nd Street in Switz City where a woman told him she had been in an off and on relationship with Perkins since 2015 and they had two children together. She allegedly said when they got up around 11:00 AM, Perkins was mad at the kids because they were not behaving and he was slapping them on the sides of their heads. The situation escalated and the woman alleged Perkins grabbed her and picked her up off the couch by her shirt and she hit her head on a table next to the couch.
Deputy Carpenter reported the woman had a bump on the side of her head and a black shirt with the collar stretched out. He also saw coffee spilled on the couch and the floor, the glass had been broken on a picture frame and pieces of a lamp, that had been knocked over during the altercation, were still on the floor.
The woman also reported another altercation had taken place on July 6 in which she said he slammed her onto the floor and kept hitting her head on the kitchen floor and kept slapping her face back and forth.
While at the residence, Deputy Carpenter also talked to the woman's grandmother and the two children and one of them said he saw the two fighting and saw his dad beat up his mom. Perkins had already left the residence by the time the deputy arrived.
Greene County DCS was contacted to provide the woman with information about domestic violence and resources.
When Deputy Carpenter located Perkins at another location in Switz City, Perkins allegedly said there was a verbal argument and he packed his stuff and left. He also said he has never hit the woman but she has hit him and the children were not present but were outside during the argument. He also said nothing that he knew of got broken during the argument and he didn't know why she would have a lump on her head.
Perkins was arrested and booked into jail. A criminal case was filed against him a couple of days later and since he bonded out, his initial hearing is set for 8:30 AM tomorrow morning, July 28.
