Lyons man accused of punching woman in face

A Lyons man was booked into jail early Sunday after a woman reported he had punched her in the face.

JEFFERY WILLIAM VAUGHN II

Jeffery William Vaughn II, 40, Lyons, was arrested by Deputy Camron Frye of the Greene County Sheriff's Department early Sunday, July 24, following a domestic incident on Saturday, July 23.

At 11:23 PM last Saturday, Deputy Frye was dispatched to an active domestic dispute occurring on West Prairie Street in Lyons after a woman told a dispatcher that Vaughn had punched her in the face and that she was currently outside the house. GCSD Sergeant Jordan Allor, Deputy Michael Stanley and Deputy Michael Coy also responded to assist on the scene.

When he arrived and talked to the woman, she said she had been drinking but was not drunk, but Vaughn was really intoxicated. She said they were in the kitchen when they got into an argument and he got in her face so she shoved him and he then punched her in the face. She said she then ran out of the house with her son who had been in his bedroom during the altercation.

When deputies talked to Vaughn, he confirmed the two had been in an argument but he did not elaborate. He confirmed the woman had pushed him but he denied hitting her. Deputy Frye reported Vaughn was heavily intoxicated, had trouble standing and trouble speaking clearly and put his hands behind his back and said, “Take me to jail.”

Vaughn was first taken to Greene County General Hospital for medical clearance. While there, he was cooperative but adamant that he would never touch a woman.

Vaughn was then transported to the Greene County Jail where he was booked in at 12:58 AM with bond set at $1000 surety with 10% cash allowed. He posted $100 and was released later the same day.

Vaughn is facing a charge of domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor, and he is scheduled to be in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing early on August 4.
