Christopher Ryan Andis, 20, Switz City, was arrested last Thursday, May 2, by Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Bobby Pierce after Pierce responded to a domestic incident.

A neighbor of Andis had heard hollering and screaming and went outside. After the alleged victim then ran into the safe space of the neighbor’s apartment, the neighbor called 911. Andis was living in the apartment complex with a family member who was the alleged victim.

When Sgt. Pierce arrived, along with Deputy Alan Jackson and Deputy Davis Aerne, he first talked to Andis who said he didn’t physically punch the woman but went on to say he pushed her and she fell. When Sgt. Pierce advised Andis that shoving someone is still considered battery unless it was self-defense, Andis allegedly said it was not self-defense, he was “just drunk.”

During interviews with Andis, Pierce reported Andis changed his story several times.

The neighbor who reported the incident was also interviewed as were two other residents in the complex. None of them witnessed the physical altercation but they were outside when the woman ran to the neighbor’s apartment and they had talked to Andis.

Sgt. Pierce reported the woman said the altercation started when she confronted Andis about his drinking. She said he had a fit and a rampage, grabbed her face, spit on her at least twice and pushed her.

The woman had visible redness, swelling and bruising to an eye.

Andis was taken into custody and on the way to the jail, allegedly admitted he had spit in the woman’s face and had shoved her but he said he did not hit her.

Once at the sheriff’s department, Andis was reported to have tested at .10 BAC on a portable breathalyzer.

When Andis appeared in Greene Superior Court on Monday, May 6, he was ordered to have no contact with the victim and he was charged with:

  • Domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor,

  • Battery by bodily waste, a Class B misdemeanor, and

  • Illegal possession of an alcoholic beverage, a Class C misdemeanor.

Bond was set at $2,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed but on Thursday evening, May 9, Andis had not yet posted bond and remained in jail.
