Summons issued for Linton man for theft of shoes

A summons to appear in Greene Superior Court was issued for a 38-year-old Linton man after he allegedly swapped his shoes out for a pair of new ones, leaving the store without paying for the new shoes.

A summons was issued on Sept. 18 for Jeremy Paige Kohn to appear in court on Oct. 23.

Linton Police Department Officers Nathanael Kilgore and JR Blazier were called to investigate the theft of a pair of shoes, valued at $16.98, on Sept. 14 at Linton Walmart. According to a probable cause affidavit written by Kilgore, a Walmart Asset Protection Associate informed officers a salesfloor associate noticed a suspicious person – later identified as Kohn – in the shoe department. The Asset Protection Associate then kept constant surveillance on Kohn and observed him select a pair of shoes. Kohn allegedly put the new shoes on and hid his old shoes behind a box of shoes on the shelf. He proceeded to exit the store through the grocery department doors.

Once in the store’s vestibule, two Asset Protection Associates approached him, introduced themselves, and said they wanted to talk about the shoes. According to the probable cause affidavit, Kohn then fled the store and left in a red Buick driven by a female. When officers initially arrived at the scene, they did not locate the vehicle.

Officers reviewed the video footage, which showed Kohn taking a pair of shoes from the shelf, putting them on, and leaving his old pair of shoes on the shelf behind a box. The ideo footage, according to the probable cause affidavit, also showed Kohn leaving the store without rendering payment for the shoes.

Kohn will be charged with theft, a Class A Misdemeanor.
