Summons for theft issued to Solsberry woman

A summons to appear in court has been issued for a 30-year-old Solsberry woman after she allegedly took items from Linton Walmart in September and left the store without paying for them.

An Asset Protection Associate (APA) contacted Linton Police Department Officer Nathanael Kilgore and Det. Logan Hobbs Sept. 8 regarding a female – later identified as Jessica Mae Thompson – who had allegedly shoplifted items and left the scene in a Chrysler van. A male subject, who had been with Thompson, had been left behind in the store and walked to Lone Tree Road area.

According to a probable cause affidavit, filed in Greene Superior Court on Oct. 16, Kilgore and Hobbs attempted to locate the van and the male subject but were unsuccessful.

Kilgore went to Walmart to speak with the APA. When entering the APA office, he observed a shopping cart full of items that were left behind by Thompson. Those items, including beauty items, sporting goods items, toys, and men’s clothing, totaled $524.55. The APA, according to the probable cause affidavit, told Kilgore that Thompson was acting suspiciously and concealing miscellaneous items in a cloth bag.

According to a written statement from an APA, he observed Thompson select a bag from the apparel section of the store and conceale several items, including men’s shirts and sporting goods items, inside and under the bag. She went to the store’s seasonal items area and concealed more items. The APA wrote she exited the grocery side doors of the store, making no effort to pay for the concealed merchandise.

Once in the store’s vestibule, an APA attempted to approach her; however, she fled to her vehicle. She appeared to call the male suspect and sped through the parking lot and to the highway. The male suspect, according to the written statement, left shortly after on foot making his way through the parking lot and onto Lone Tree Road.

A summons to appear in Greene Superior Court on Nov. 20 was issued to Thompson on Oct. 16.
