A Springville man already arrested and charged with theft for allegedly stealing a wood furnace was back in court Monday to face a new charge of intimidation for allegedly threatening the owners of the wood furnace.

Jason Lee Mitchell, 45, Springville, was arrested on a warrant by Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy David Elmore last Wednesday, March 13.

The warrant was issued after an investigation by Greene County Sheriff’s Det. Shawn Cullison that began in early February after one of the owners of the wood furnace called him saying she had received a message from Mitchell on her phone.

According to a probable cause affidavit prepared by Cullison, in the message, Mitchell allegedly said he had evidence of the furnace’s owners committing a crime and if they did not drop the theft charge, he was going to turn them over to the prosecutor.

After Mitchell was booked in to the Greene County Jail, his bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $400 cash and was released the next day.

Then on Monday when he appeared in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing, he was formally charged with intimidation, a Level 6 felony.

In a separate third case, Mitchell was also charged with carrying a handgun without a license, a Class A misdemeanor.

The earlier case involving theft is still pending with a pretrial conference scheduled in early May, but a petition to revoke bond has been filed.
