Son accused of battery on his mother

A 50-year-old Linton man found himself behind bars in the early morning hours of April 11 after allegedly pushing his mother into a wall and pulling her hair.

Christopher Lee Pilant

Christopher Lee Pilant was arrested by Linton Police Department (LPD) Officer Alan Jackson at 12:11 a.m. on April 11 following a domestic battery incident that began around 5:30 p.m. the previous day.

Jackson, LPD Officer Janzen Franklin, and Jasonville Police Department Officer Dustin Cain responded to a call on County Road 800 North in Jasonville at approximately 11:11 p.m. Upon arrival, Pilant exited the residence and sat in a chair on the porch. Officers entered the home to speak with the victim who said that between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., she woke Pilant to take him to the hospital as he had not been feeling well.

The victim said she was in the living room area of the home when Pilant walked into the kitchen. The two allegedly argued. The victim, according to the probable cause affidavit prepared by Officer Jackson, said she turned around to walk down the hallway when Pilant came behind her and pushed her into a wall causing her to hit her head on the wall. The victim also alleged he pulled her hair. Jackson noted in the probable cause that the victim did not have any visible injuries but did complain of head pain.

The victim told officers that she and a witness took Pilant to the hospital to get checked out. When returning from the hospital, she alleged the arguing continued. A witness who was not present at the time of the battery overheard Pilant make a comment about killing the victim. According to the probable cause affidavit, Pilant did not make this comment directly to the victim.

When asked by officers why the police were at the residence, Pilant allegedly responded it was due to the arguing between him and the victim. According to the probable cause affidavit, Pilant denied any physical contact between himself and the victim. When Jackson told Pilant what the victim has referenced, he allegedly said he did not remember it happening but noted the victim was not a liar and agreed it could have happened.

Pilant was transported to Greene County Jail where his bond was set at $1,000 surety with 10% cash allowed. He will appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on April 13 and will be charged with domestic battery, a Class A Misdemeanor.
