Shopper facing charge of criminal trespassing

A summons was issued today ordering a woman accused of trespassing to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing as a result of an investigation by an LPD officer into an incident that occurred on Sunday, October 9.

Officer Davis Aerne of the Linton Police Department responded to the Walmart store in Linton early Monday, October 10, after the store reported a trespassing had occurred around 5:00 PM on Sunday, October 9.

One of the store’s asset protection associates (APA) explained that he was familiar with Katie Sue Coatney, 36, and she had been trespassed from all Walmart property on March 29 due to an incident that occurred at the Walmart store in Washington, Indiana. The APA provided a trespassing form signed by Coatney and a Washington police officer where she was notified not to trespass on any Walmart property.

Coatney and a male subject were then spotted in the Linton Walmart store on Sunday, and Coatney allegedly walked around everywhere in the store then went to the apparel section where she started to conceal some pants then took them out of the cart. She then met back up with the man and the couple then took a package of grapes from their cart and paid for the grapes before leaving the store.

A criminal case was filed against Coatney on Tuesday and when she appears at her initial hearing scheduled for December 12, she will be facing a charge of criminal trespassing, a Class A misdemeanor.
