Donald Wayne Howell, 67, Linton, was arrested earlier this month by Officer Alan Jackson of the Linton Police Department. Howell was booked into the Greene County Jail at 2:20 a.m. on Saturday, May 8. His bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted bond and was released the same day.

Howell was scheduled to appear at an initial hearing late last week but he retained a defense attorney and the hearing was waived.

Howell has been charged with:

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor, and

  • Operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred around 12:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 8. Officer Jackson said he, along with LPD Officers Janzen Franklin, Nick Yingling and Joseph Riley, were advised to be on the lookout for a green Jeep Wrangler with a driver that might be intoxicated. LPD dispatch had gotten a tip about the driver after the Jeep went through a drive-through of a local restaurant. Dispatch was able to give the officers a possible address for the suspected driver.

Howell was the suspected driver and when Officer Jackson knocked on the door of his residence in Linton, Howell came outside and Officer Jackson reported he could smell the odor of alcohol coming from Howell who showed several other indications of intoxication.

Howell allegedly confirmed he had just driven from his house to the drive-through then back home again, and before that, he had consumed five or six Michelob beers.

Howell was transported to the police department where he allegedly failed standard field sobriety tests then showed a blood alcohol concentration equivalent to .165 on a certified chemical test.
