Police respond to a couple’s domestic dispute two times in two hours last weekend

When police responded to a domestic late Saturday night, the alleged victim didn’t want anything done. But when they responded to another call a couple hours later, a Linton man went to jail.

Anibal Geovani Lopez-Monge

Anibal Geovani Lopez-Monge, 30, Linton, was arrested by Officer Cayden Walker of the Linton Police Department early Sunday, October 17, following incidents that began late Saturday, October 16.

LPD Dispatch got a call at 11:33 p.m. last Saturday about an intoxicated Hispanic man wearing a black jacket and white shirt that was kicking vehicles. Officer Walker responded and identified the man as Lopez-Monge.

Three other individuals who were present said they witnessed Lopez-Monge shove his wife in the yard but his wife maintained he had not shoved her but had only nudged. This incident occurred at the home of a family member of the wife, who said she didn’t want anything done about it and she just wanted to take him home and let him go to sleep. And so she assisted him into her vehicle and they departed the scene while a family member asked if they should call 911 if they heard from her that something was wrong.

Around 1:15 a.m., LPD Dispatch got the call saying the wife had called. Officer Walker and Officer Bobby Pierce responded to Lopez-Monge’s residence and subsequently transported Lopez-Monge to the police department and the wife, a family member and a juvenile were asked to also go to the police department for interviews.

According to a probably cause affidavit, after the couple got home, with a juvenile present, an argument turned physical and Lopez-Monge is accused of shoving his wife and trying to hit her. She allegedly did try to push him away and threw something at him trying to get away. During an interview, the juvenile explained witnessing the incident.

Lopez-Monge was booked into the Greene County Jail at 2:43 a.m. on Sunday, with bond set at $4,500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $450 and was released later the same day.

Lopez-Monge is expected to be in Greene Superior Court on October 28 for his initial hearing on charges of:

  • Domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor, and

  • Domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old, a Level 6 felony.
