Pipe replacements scheduled for multiple SR 54 locations in Sullivan County

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces road closures for multiple culvert pipe replacements on State Road 54 from Sullivan to Dugger.

Beginning on or around Monday, May 10, INDOT crews will begin a project to replace four culvert pipes on S.R. 54. The replacements will require a full road closure for several hours to allow for excavation at the site, extraction of the old culvert pipe, and replacement of the pipe and fill material. Following the closure, fill material will be allowed to compact under normal traffic conditions before crews come back to replace the pavement with asphalt.

Only one location will be closed at a time and closures are expected to take about a day each, depending upon weather conditions. Work will start after morning peak traffic hours and is expected to end before evening peak hours.

The four locations to be closed are:

  • Near U.S. 41 and Section Street

  • Near the intersection of South County Road 200 East

  • Near the intersection of East C.R. 50 South

  • Near Miller drive, west of the Dugger Town Limit.

The entire operation is scheduled to last for about four days depending on weather conditions. The official detour for all closures uses S.R. 48, S.R. 59, S.R. 58 and U.S. 41.

INDOT urges drivers to slow down and stay alert near crews.
