Officer reports a woman said her microwave was talking to her

An LPD Officer said meth use was suspected when a woman told officers her microwave was talking to her around 4:30 yesterday morning. Now she’s in jail on a drug charge.

Christi Marie Mathis

Christi Marie Mathis, 43, Linton, was arrested by Officer Janzen Franklin of the Linton Police Department early yesterday morning, Thursday, January 20.

Officer Franklin, the investigating officer, along with other LPD officers including Officer Bobby Pierce, responded to a room in Allen’s Motel in Linton after Mathis texted 911 at 4:28 a.m. and reported the neighbors were being loud and woke her up.

When they arrived, Mathis allegedly told them that her microwave was talking to her. Officer Pierce asked if they could come in and have a look at her microwave and she agreed. While officers were talking to her, Mathis allegedly said she hadn’t been using any drugs but the officers suspected she had been using methamphetamine.

Officer Franklin asked if he could search her room and she agreed.

Officer Franklin reported that during the search, they located a clear glass smoking device containing a white residue that field-tested positive as methamphetamine, a plastic zip bag containing a white crystal substance, two plastic bags containing a plant material, two sets of scales, two weights for scale calibration and multiple plastic zip bags.

Mathis allegedly said the pipe was hers and that she sells weed and that she sells a couple of grams (of meth) here and there.

Mathis was taken into custody and booked into the Greene County Jail at 5:53 a.m. where she is being  held without bond pending court appearance.

Mathis is facing a charge of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony.

Her bond will be set when she appears at her initial hearing scheduled for January 24. Until then, she’s in jail.
