Derrick L. Cummings of Sellesburg was the driver of a 2006 Freightliner tractor pulling a 2008 UTI box trailer carrying 43,000 pounds of auto parts.

Deputy Carpenter, the investigating officer, said the semi was westbound on SR 54 headed to Metal Technologies in Bloomfield. The driver said he was going approximately 50 mph when he felt the truck shake. The driver said it had been windy all day and he thought it was just the wind again. But as he was going through the curve at SR 54 and Sharkey Road, the vehicle started to roll over onto its passenger side.

Deputy Carpenter talked to a witness to the crash, Chrystal Hoffmeister who was eastbound on SR 54 when the rollover occurred. She said she passed by the Freightliner and trailer and saw all four rear tires on the trailer come off the ground. She said when the tires came off the ground, that’s when the trailer started to roll over.

The driver was able to exit the vehicle and had no injuries.

There were no tire marks showing where the vehicle or the trailer went off the road.

Deputy Carpenter reported a power pole belonging to REMC was damaged. So was an INDOT highway sign and another sign belonging to the Greene County Highway Department. Comcast had utility lines down but did not report any damage as of late Wednesday. AT&T also had a utility line down and it was damaged.
