Kasaundra Leigh Watkins 36, Martinsville, was arrested by Det. Shawn Cullison of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department last Wednesday, June 16.

Greene County Dispatch got a 911 call last Wednesday from a woman who said a man had tried to run her over. But she also said the man who tried to run her over was now bleeding from his head.

Det. Cullison, the investigating officer, responded along with GCSD Det. David Elmore and Deputy Camron Frye to a property on North Wilkie School Road where the domestic altercation was taking place.

The deputies were on their way when they were advised the man had left the property in a red Chevy Blazer. Then they were advised the man had returned, gave the keys to the woman who had called 911, and she then left in the truck.

When they arrived, Det. Cullison found the man lying in the grass with blood running down his face and the side of his head from lacerations. Det. Elmore stayed on the scene while Deputy Frye went to meet with the woman who had pulled over and stopped at LaSalle Estate Road.

While talking to the bleeding man, deputies learned the couple was from the Martinsville area and had traveled down to the property on Wilkie School Road to load up some scrap metal. They two had been arguing before they arrived and at some point after they arrived, the woman, identified as Kasaundra Watkins, grabbed the man’s phone. When he tried to get it back, she allegedly started beating him in the head with it. He got in their vehicle and left but quickly returned, gave the keys to Watkins and she then left.

According to Det. Cullison, the man said he had not used any meth for two weeks but Watkins would not stop using and he thought she was driving around with drugs in the vehicle.

When Deputy Frye talked to Watkins, he reported her stories did not make any sense and he indicated she kept changing her story. She also did not mention anything about the man trying to run her over as she had told dispatch.

Watkins was taken into custody and the vehicle was towed – the man did not have a valid driver’s license. Prior to towing, Det. Elmore located a glass smoking pipe in the vehicle that field-tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine. When asked about the pipe, Watkins allegedly said she didn’t know anything about it, and that she doesn’t use methamphetamine and doesn’t do any drugs.

Watkins was booked into the Greene County Jail at 2:56 p.m.

A Greene County Ambulance responded to the property and gave medical attention to the man, helping to clean the blood off his face and head. After that, he declined further medical treatment.

Watkins has been charged with:

  • Domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, a Level 6 felony,

  • Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and

  • Possession of paraphernalia a Class C misdemeanor.
