Man walking around a parking lot asking people for money arrested

A Linton man who was walking around the parking lot of a shopping center area asking people for money was not supposed to return to the property and was arrested for criminal trespassing.

Steven D. Hubbard

Steven D. Hubbard, 39, Linton, was arrested by Officer Alan Jackson of the Linton Police Department on Friday, March 4.

On that day, LPD Dispatch got a call from a woman who said she had been in the Linton Shopping Center area and felt uneasy trying to get to her car due to a man who was walking around asking people for money. She described him as wearing camo pants, a yellow jacket and a red hat.

LPD Officers Jackson and Wayman JR Blazier responded to the shopping center at 4:45 p.m. and Officer Jackson recognized the man standing in the parking lot as Steven Hubbard. His clothing matched the description given by the caller.

A records check revealed there was a no-trespassing order against Hubbard and it was for the shopping center. The order was issued in late October 2020 because he was doing the same thing – asking people for money in the parking areas.

When Officer Jackson asked Hubbard about signing the form when the order was given to him by Officer Phipps in 2020, Hubbard said he forgot he was trespassed from the shopping center.

Hubbard was taken into custody. The only thing found in his pockets was an unopened can of beer.

Hubbard was booked into the Greene County Jail at 5:23 p.m. with bond set at $1,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since posted bond and been released from jail.

Hubbard has been charged with criminal trespassing, a Class A misdemeanor.
