Man calls 911 for a ride home, officers take him to jail instead
/A Jasonville man, involved in a series of domestic altercations that took place over the course of an evening out, allegedly said he got angry and decided to call 911 for a ride home. At least three officers responded, and they gave him a ride to the Greene County Jail instead.
When Andrew Wayne Scott, 30, appeared in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing last Thursday morning, August 9, he was charged with domestic battery in the presence of a child less than 16 years of age, a Level 6 felony.
Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Alan Jackson, the investigating officer, arrested Scott on Sunday, August 5.
After the 911 call came in, Jackson responded to a residence on County Road 900 West in the Jasonville area, along with Jasonville Police Officer Dustin Cain and GCSD Deputy Davis Aerne.
Deputy Jackson reported that Scott explained he and his wife had not been getting along for a while and they went out to try and have a good time but they “got into it.”
The deputy reported that she said they went out to the Buckshot Bar in Linton and at one point when she returned from a trip to the ladies room, Scott was dancing with another woman. A disagreement started and they walked out the back door to go home. But when Scott demanded the keys to the truck and she refused because he’d had too much to drink to be driving, he called his ex-wife to pick him up, then was beating on his own truck before walking off down the street.
The ex-wife located him and called the wife to meet them near the Tire and Lube Department of the WalMart store, but a bit of an altercation took place there and both vehicles left, stopping at a gas station where another bit of an altercation took place before they ended up at the man’s mother’s home where there was another bit of an altercation.
The probable cause document is a puzzle of numerous altercations as this incident moved from one location to another and another. It mentions shoving, pushing, grabbing, chasing, arguing. According to Jackson’s report, at one point the wife was hiding in a closet until officers arrived.
Officers noticed a knot on Scott’s forehead – he said he got that earlier in a bar issue but another witness said he had hit his ex-wife’s boyfriend and the two men had been in a fight.
Deputy Jackson took photographs of the damage to the pickup truck which included blood on the truck, and of injuries to Scott’s hands and the knot on his forehead.
He also took photographs of the wife’s injuries to her face.
Scott agreed to take a portable breath test and Deputy Jackson reported it showed Scott had a blood-alcohol concentration of .122.
His bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted bond and was released the same day as his arrest.
