A Lyons man accused of dealing meth, with two criminal cases currently pending against him, was taken into custody Wednesday on a warrant. This makes the fourth time he’s been arrested so far this year.

Jeffery Ray Adams, 47, is back in the Greene County Jail where he’s currently being held without bond.

Adams was out on bond in a case involving disorderly conduct – unreasonable noise, a Class B misdemeanor. Police said he would not stop yelling during a midnight traffic stop in Worthington back in May. That case is pending – it’ll be back in court for a pre-trial conference in late November.

The second case pending against Adams is more serious. He was arrested on May 15 following an investigation by the Greene County Drug Task Force and accused of selling methamphetamine on multiple occasions last spring. Officers said he had been traveling out-of-county to obtain quantities of meth that were being sold in Greene County.

Adams was charged with two counts of dealing in methamphetamine, one a Level 4 felony, the other a Level 5 felony. His bond in this case was first set at $25,000 surety with ten percent allowed. The defense filed a motion to reduce the bond and the judge approved, lowering his bond to $20,000. Adams posted $2,000 cash and was released.

A pretrial conference was scheduled to occur shortly after, on September 12, but Adams asked for a continuance. The request was granted and the date was reset for Wednesday of last week, October 17.

Then last Wednesday at the pretrial, his defense attorney, Deputy Public Defender Ellen Martin appeared but Adams was a no-show. Prosecutor Jarrod Holtsclaw requested a warrant for his arrest and the warrant was issued the next day.

Yesterday, on Wednesday, October 24, Adams was taken into custody by Indiana State Police Trooper Richard Klun and booked back into the Greene County Jail, again.

Records show Jeff Adams does have a criminal history. He was accused of getting into a high-speed drag race with another man on a hilly stretch of highway near Solsberry in May of 2009. One car was traveling in the right lane, and one in the left. When they crested a blind hill on a double yellow line, the other vehicle crashed head-on into a motorcycle. The motorcycle driver was killed in the fiery crash and so was a passenger in the vehicle. Adams escaped injury but he was later charged with several criminal counts related to the crash. At the conclusion of a trial, a jury found him guilty of one count of reckless homicide, a Class C felony, and lesser charges of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and reckless driving. He was sentenced In June 2010 to six years with two suspended leaving four to serve in the Indiana DOC. He served his time and with good time credit, was released in February 2012.
