Linton woman arrested for domestic battery in front of a child
/A Linton woman was arrested June 30 and is facing a felony charge of domestic battery in the presence of a child after an altercation at her home escalated into a police response.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Greene Superior Court, officers with the Linton Police Department were dispatched to a residence on June 30 after a report of a woman threatening to harm herself with a knife. Greene County General Hospital Police Officer Caleb Ray was already on scene and requested an expedited response due to the escalating nature of the situation.
When Linton Police Patrolman Jerrad Pirtle arrived, he identified the woman involved as Sarah Camden, 37. Officers attempted to separate Camden from the others present at the scene to speak with her privately, but she was initially uncooperative. She eventually sat on the front steps of the home, where she made several comments about the altercation but offered limited details.
Camden admitted to slapping her daughter during a dispute over finances, stating, “I popped her in the mouth and it was on.” According to the daughter, the confrontation occurred in her bedroom. She said her mother screamed at her, pointed a finger in her face, and attempted to hit her. When she raised her hands defensively, Camden reportedly became more aggressive—grabbing her by the hair and repeatedly punching her in the head.
The fight escalated again when Camden reportedly took her daughter to the ground and wrapped her legs around her. The daughter told officers she eventually separated from her mother and began packing to leave the house.
Witnesses reported that Camden continued trying to physically grab a child and had to be stopped multiple times. A witness stated that after receiving a call from someone at the scene, she came to the house and intervened to help the child, slapping Camden to get her to release the child.
Another witness was reportedly struck by Camden during the incident but had left the scene by the time officers arrived. Attempts to contact the witness by phone were unsuccessful.
When officers attempted to detain Camden, she resisted by refusing to comply with orders and had to be physically taken to the ground and handcuffed. She was later transported to Greene County Jail and charged with domestic battery in the presence of a child under 16, a level 6 Felony. EMS responded to the scene after Camden claimed to be having a panic attack, but she refused medical treatment.
Her bond was set at $4,000 surety with 10% cash allowed.
She is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on July 7.
