Dorian Scott Conklin, now 27, Linton, has been convicted of sexual misconduct with a minor, a Level 4 felony.

Conklin was arrested by Detective David Elmore of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on April 7 following an investigation by Det. Elmore that was ongoing for close to a year.

For background on the case, the story posted on GreeneStreets on Monday, April 13, is included below this story.

Conklin had bonded out of jail and a jury trial was scheduled for next January. But on August 19, Conklin entered into a negotiated plea agreement with Greene County Prosecutor Jarrod Holtsclaw and the jury trial date was vacated.

Last Thursday, October 15, Conklin appeared before Judge Erik Allen in Greene Circuit Court and changed his plea to guilty. Conklin was represented by Deputy Public Defender Ellen Martin. The State was represented by Deputy Prosecutor Keven McIntosh.

In handing down the sentence, Judge Allen noted that no aggravating factors were found but there were mitigating factors including the fact that Conklin pled guilty and accepted responsibility for his actions, and that he had no prior criminal history.

Conklin was sentenced to prison for six years with three years suspended. After he serves his sentence in the Indiana Department of Corrections, he will be on probation for three years. Conklin was given credit for three days already served.

Conklin was ordered to have no contact with the victim and ordered to pay various fines, fees and costs. He will be required to register as a sex offender as required by law.

Conklin was not taken into custody at the hearing but was ordered to report to the jail no later than 10 a.m. on Monday, October 19.

Conklin did report to the Greene County Jail as ordered and was booked in at 9:35 a.m. yesterday, October 19. At some point, he will be transferred to Indiana DOC custody.

Dorian Scott Conklin, 26, of Linton, was arrested by Deputy David Elmore of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department last Tuesday, April 7. He was taken into custody on a warrant for Conklin’s arrest that was issued on April 2 following an investigation by Deputy Elmore that’s been ongoing for close to a year.

When the criminal case against Conklin was filed on April 2 in Greene Circuit Court, public records were sealed until after Conklin was in custody and an initial hearing conducted last Thursday, April 9.

Conklin has been charged with sexual misconduct with a minor, a Level 4 felony.

The investigation began back in late May of 2019 when Deputy Elmore was looking into the possible theft of a gun from a cabin on South County Road 100 West. During the course of that investigation, Deputy Elmore learned there was a party at the cabin on Easter weekend in 2019 with multiple adults and juveniles and during the party, a sexual encounter took place between an adult and a juvenile. Deputy Elmore talked to multiple individuals about the allegation.

Conklin was the adult suspect. He was interviewed by Deputy Elmore and a DCS case worker about what happened at the party and if he had been sexually involved with the same juvenile on multiple occasions. Over time, numerous interviews were conducted with the juvenile and various witnesses including another juvenile and some other adults.

According to a probable cause affidavit prepared by Deputy Elmore, Conklin allegedly had picked the juvenile up several times, drove the juvenile to an abandoned farmhouse and engaged in sex after he was told the juvenile was 15, then 16 years old. He then engaged in another encounter at the cabin over Easter weekend in 2019. Deputy Elmore said after the incident at the cabin, the juvenile had gone to the hospital with tearing of the juvenile’s vagina.

According to Deputy Elmore, Conklin eventually confirmed the incidents had taken place but denied knowing the juvenile’s age.

Conklin’s bond was set at $15,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since posted $1,500 and been released from jail.
