Linton man arrested on warrants, drug charges

An anonymous tip led to the drug-related and warrant arrest of a 42-year-old Linton man on July 6.

After receiving an anonymous tip that Brian Robert Callihan, who had active warrants, was staying at the Allen’s Motel, Linton Police Department officers Nathan Kilgore, Jerrad Pirtle, and Mitchell Eberhardt went to the motel. According to the probable cause affidavit written by Kilgore, the motel’s manager advised Callihan was staying in one of the rooms. Upon going to the room officers were told Callihan was in, Callihan was asked to step outside and was advised he was wanted on warrants and placed in handcuffs.

The warrants stemmed from a February 2024 case for unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and jacklighting from a vehicle and a September 2023 case for operating a vehicle as a habitual traffic violator, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, and two counts of possession of a Schedule I, II, or III controlled substance.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Officer Pirtle advised he saw a scale and bag of marijuana on a bed inside the room. Upon receiving Callihan’s consent to search the room, the three officers carried out a search of the room and bathroom. Through this search, inside the room they located a scale, grinder, and big plastic bag with a large quantity of a leafy green substance smelling of marijuana. They also located a metal container with burnt roaches smelling of burnt marijuana. Inside the bathroom, officers located a glass pipe with a crystal white substance. The substance in the pipe later field tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the probable cause affidavit.

A witness in the room alleged she was unaware of the pipe in the bathroom, but claimed all the items belonged to Callihan.

Callihan, according to the probable cause affidavit, said everything inside the room was his. Officer Pirtle asked Callihan why he had such a large amount of marijuana. Callihan alleged he buys it in bulk because it’s cheaper. He told officers he uses the scales to weigh the marijuana after he buys it.

Callihan is facing new charges of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 Felony; possession of marijuana, a Class B Misdemeanor; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C Misdemeanor.

He’s being held without bond for this arrest and the drug-related warrant. For the possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and jacklight from a vehicle warrant, his bond was set at $15,000 surety with 10% cash allowed. Officer Kilgore was the arresting officer.
