Linton man arrested for domestic battery after video evidence surfaces
/A Linton man was arrested July 20 on charges of domestic battery with bodily injury against a disabled person after disturbing video footage was submitted to the Linton Police Department.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Greene County Superior Court, Richard Charles Ausman, 40, is facing a Level 5 felony charge of domestic battery following a July 12 incident at a residence on Glenburn Road, where he lived with an elderly family member.
Linton Police Chief Paul Clark began the investigation after meeting a reporting party at the police department on July 16. They reported that Ausman had been abusing the elderly woman, who suffers from dementia and is under the care of a family physician and neurologist. The party also indicated they had video evidence of the abuse.
Three video clips, taken from a camera inside the home, were submitted to police through the department’s online portal. The videos, time-stamped between 5:34 a.m. and 5:51 a.m. on July 12, depict a series of escalating incidents between Ausman and the victim.
In one video, Ausman can be seen yelling at the victim, throwing a pillow in her direction, and making vulgar comments. According to the probable cause affidavit, he is then seen pulling down his pants and exposing his buttocks in front of her. In another clip, he breaks an object and throws it at her before threatening to “kill him if he comes in here,” which officers believe refers to a potential police response. The final video shows Ausman striking the victim across the face with a hat, prompting her to cry out and leave the room.
During a follow-up with both the reporting party and another individual, police learned that Ausman had recently moved in with the victim and was expected to assist with her care and household chores. While some video clips show him completing tasks, others capture what police describe as abusive and violent behavior.
A warrant for Ausman’s arrest was issued July 18, and he was carried out July 20. He is being held without bond.
Ausman faces a Level 5 Felony of domestic battery to a disabled person with bodily harm.
