A Linton man was arrested early last Friday after he allegedly brandished a knife, made a threat and behaved aggressively toward a family member.

William Wesley Smith, 33, Linton, was arrested by Officer Joe Riley of the Linton Police Department early Friday, January 17. Smith was booked into the Greene County Jail around 3:30 a.m.

Around 2:45 a.m. last Friday, Officer Riley and LPD Officer Kyle Robison were dispatched to domestic dispute at a residence on 7th Street NW in Linton.

A caller said that during an argument with a family member, Smith had brandished a knife, stabbed a dresser and threatened to stab a family member.

When officers arrived on the scene, Smith was sitting in a chair on the porch. He didn’t have any weapons in his hands, but Officer Riley reported a black folding knife with a four-inch blade was found in Smith’s front left pants pocket.

While speaking with the residents at the home, officers learned Smith had been living with them but allegedly had been causing issues for several days. Also, after shouting loudly and keeping young children awake, he had been asked to leave earlier that night. When he returned about an hour later, he was let in due to the cold temperature and his promise to go straight to sleep and not cause any more problems. But he allegedly did cause issues and police were called.

When Smith was booked into jail, he was reported to have been in possession of a plastic baggie of marijuana.

Smith’s bond was set at $10,500 surety with ten percent cash allowed.

He is facing charges of intimidation with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony, and possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor.
