Linton man accused of meth possession
/After a K9 alerted to the presence of meth in a pickup truck and officers performed a search last weekend, the driver allegedly admitted that whatever they found belonged to him.
Herbert Lee Piker, 50, of Linton, was arrested by Deputy Zachary Goad of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department early last Saturday, May 16.
A little after 3 a.m. that day, Deputy Goad was traveling behind a white 1995 Ford F-150 northbound on County Road 800 West. Deputy Goad reported the truck traveled left of center multiple times and he initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of CR 800 West and West State Road 54. Piker was the driver with one passenger on board.
As Deputy Goad was completing the business of the stop, Linton Police Officer Joe Riley arrived to assist and Officer Riley’s K9 partner Kona performed a free air sniff around Piker’s vehicle. Kona alerted on the driver’s side and Piker and passenger were asked to step out of the vehicle while officers searched the vehicle.
During the search, officers found paraphernalia and a white plastic bag containing a white crystal substance inside a Black and Decker tool bag behind the front seat. The contents of the bag tested positive as methamphetamine.
The passenger was released from the scene. Piker allegedly admitted that whatever they found was his and he was just giving the passenger a ride home.
Piker was booked in to the Greene County Jail around 4:21 a.m. on a preliminary charge of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony.
He was being held without bond pending his appearance in court for an initial hearing next Tuesday, May 26.
