Jeffrey Scott Bays II, 35, Linton, was arrested on Tuesday, January 28, by Deputy James Carpenter of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on a warrant issued following an investigation by Lyons Town Marshal Andrew Hamilton.

Marshal Hamilton responded to a residence on Meridian Street in Lyons twice in mid-January, both times for reports of domestic incidents.

Marshal Hamilton was dispatched around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15, after a woman reported her boyfriend, Jeffrey Scott Bays, had hit her. A sheriff’s deputy was also dispatched to assist. The woman said they had gotten into an altercation and Bays had punched her on the side of her head. She said Bays then left the house and that he took her keys with him.

Marshal Hamilton reported she did have a reddish tint to her face but she did not have significant signs of injury.

When Bays was located, he said she was upset and was screaming and cursing and he had enough and walked outside then to the gas station. He said there was no physical contact and he did not take her keys.

Bays gave permission for a search and Marshal Hamilton reported he was not found in possession of the keys.

Bays was given a no-trespassing order to not return to the woman’s home and no arrest was made.

Then a few days later, on Sunday afternoon, January 19, Hamilton was dispatched back to the same residence on the report of a domestic going on.

This time the woman said Bays had grabbed her and shoved her head to the floor before he left the home. The woman, who is pregnant, complained of stomach pain so an ambulance was dispatched. The woman was checked out by EMTs. She was not transported but was advised to rest.

When Marshal Hamilton went to another residence in an effort to locate Bays, the resident said Bays had been there but was gone. Marshal Hamilton was able to determine Bays was likely to be at a residence in Linton. When an officer showed up at the door of the Linton residence, a man said Bays saw the patrol car arriving and ran out the back door. Officers were unable to locate him.

A criminal case was then filed and a warrant issued. GCSD Deputy Carpenter took Bays into custody on Tuesday.

Bays is facing a preliminary charge of domestic battery with a previous conviction, a Level 5 felony. His bond was set at $10,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed.
