Jasonville woman accused of contributing to the delinquency of a minor
/When police were looking for a runaway in mid-April, a Jasonville woman, who admitted she knew the minor was wanted, allegedly picked the runaway up and took him home with her instead of contacting police.
Kristen J. McDaniel, 24, of Jasonville, is facing a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a Class A misdemeanor.
This stems from an investigation by Sgt. Brian Pilant of the Jasonville Police Department into a runaway incident that occurred mid-April.
Pilant was told of a minor who had run away from a residence where he’d been placed. The circumstances were that he was supposed to go meet new foster parents in Worthington but when it came time to go, he refused to get into the car and he ran off.
The minor was then entered into the system as a runaway and the police department issued a request for information from the public.
On April 17, Pilant received anonymous information that the minor was at 890 South Florence Street in Jasonville with Kristen McDaniel.
When Pilant, assisted by JPD Officer Ryan Van Horn, went to the residence and knocked on the door, it was opened and he could see the minor sitting on the couch. The minor was taken into custody.
Pilant reported that when he talked to McDaniel, she said she knew the minor was wanted as a runaway and that she’d been with him all day. She allegedly admitted she had picked him up, knew he was a runaway, did not take him to the police station but instead took him home with her. She also did not call police.
McDaniel was told a charge would be filed against her.
A summons has been sent to McDaniel ordering her to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing in mid-June.
