A Jasonville man promised to turn himself in back in August to serve a sentence. He was a no-show and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Late last Thursday night, he was taken into custody by a state trooper.

Clinten Reed Dalton, 35, Jasonville, was arrested by Indiana State Police Trooper Justin Bell last Thursday, December 17. Dalton was booked in at 11:16 p.m.

Dalton was expected to turn himself in at the Greene County Jail back on August 7. When he didn’t appear, Det. Shawn Cullison of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department began an investigation that resulted in a criminal case filed against Dalton for failure to return to lawful detention, a Level 6 felony.

At that point, Dalton had four criminal cases pending against him including the new one filed after the no-show and three older cases for a total of four warrants being issued in August for his arrest.

In two of the older cases, Dalton was found guilty of felony dealing methamphetamine – these incidents date back several years. Dalton has served sentences in the Indiana Department of Corrections, been released, and had been on probation.

Last spring, warrants were issued for his arrest for alleged violations of his probation. He was arrested on March 11 and bonded out of jail. On July 22, during a hearing, he admitted to the violations and was sentenced to 180 days in the Indiana Department of Corrections with credit for two days already served. After he serves this time, he would be released and be back on probation.

Det. Cullison reported that at Dalton’s sentencing, Dalton asked that he not have to go to jail that day. He asked for additional time before he had to turn himself in. The judge agreed and ordered him to report to the jail no later than 6 p.m. on August 7.

Since Dalton was taken into custody, he has appeared in court for hearings in all four cases.
