Mark Andrew Irons, 29, Jasonville, was arrested by Officer Dustin Cain of the Jasonville Police Department on Saturday, October 10, following a domestic incident that occurred very early that day. Irons was booked into the Greene County Jail at 3:49 a.m.

Officer Cain was dispatched at 12:42 a.m. to a residence in Jasonville after Irons called 911 and claimed two family members had assaulted him. That was followed by a call from a woman at the residence who requested an ambulance for Irons. But after Officer Cain arrived and talked to several individuals, Irons was the one who was taken into custody and transported to jail.

Officer Cain reported things were very chaotic on the scene. Irons was yelling and was upset. He was frantic and breathing heavily. He claimed the two family members were still there, that they had done something to him, had beaten him and that he was trying to get away, wanted them to leave, wanted them gone. Officer Cain told him repeatedly that those two family members were not there.

Two other individuals were in the house and one was also yelling and was frantic. At one point during the officer’s investigation, she said she thought she was having a heart attack and also needed an ambulance. Deputy Cain called for an ambulance for her and waited with her for the ambulance to arrive. After they arrived and she was out with the ambulance and rescue personnel, she walked back to the porch, sat down and said she decided not to be transported. While this was happening, Irons continued frantic behavior.

When Deputy Cain went to another residence to talk to the accused two family members, they were calm and the officer learned one of them had earlier been worried about Irons, his mental state and behavior and he went to the residence where Irons was staying to check on him. But he said while he was talking to Irons, Irons just “went off” and bit him on the arm, then started screaming and punching him. The man said he felt like he was in a fight for his life when the other family member, who went there to check on them, arrived and saw they were in a “knock down, drag out.” The second family member said Irons was pounding on the other family member so he tried to split them apart. Both men allegedly received several hits from Irons before they were able to leave and go home.

Irons was arrested. His bond was set at $1,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since posted $100 and been released from jail.

Irons is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on October 29 when he will be formally charged with domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor, and criminal mischief, a Class B misdemeanor.
