Ricky Lee Cain, 41, Worthington, was arrested by Indiana State Police Trooper Caleb Garvin on Sunday, March 28.

Cain was the passenger in a black 1999 Pontiac Firebird that was northbound on JL Wilson Road at 7:04 p.m. on Sunday, March 28. Trooper Garvin was also northbound on the same road, traveling behind the Firebird when it stopped then turned onto State Road 54 without signaling the turn. A traffic stop was initiated.

Trooper Garvin reported the female driver was calm and didn’t appear nervous during the stop, but Cain seemed extremely nervous with behavior consistent with methamphetamine use.

When Indiana State Police Trooper Richard Klun arrived to assist, he deployed his K9 partner Loki for a free air sniff around the Firebird and Loki alerted to the presence of a controlled substance in the vehicle.

During a search, the troopers found a black and white plaid jacket in the back seat with a clear plastic bag containing a crystal substance in a pocket. The substance field-tested positive as methamphetamine and weighed in at 8.7 grams.

During an interview, Cain allegedly admitted the jacket was his and the methamphetamine was his. He also allegedly admitted he had used meth a few hours before the stop. When Cain was taken into custody, a metal smoking device was found on his person.

Cain was booked into the Greene County Jail at 8:20 p.m. He was held without bond pending court appearance.

Earlier today, Tuesday, March 30, when Cain appeared in Greene Circuit Court for an initial hearing, a public defender was appointed to represent him, his bond was set at $20,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed, and he was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony.
