Iowa couple makes it to Greene County Jail instead of Juggalo festival
/An Iowa couple just traveling through Bloomfield on their way to a music festival, without lights on their trailer, were stopped and wound up in jail on drug charges. When they were in court yesterday, their bond was set at $5,000 surety or cash with no ten percent allowed. There was a festival in Springville July 30-August 3 called the “Gathering of the Juggalos.”
Robert Daniel Bates, 53, and Joyanna Lorraine Moore, 50, both from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, were arrested on Wednesday, July 31, by Deputy Marshall Jordan Allor of the Bloomfield Police Department during a traffic stop.
Officer Allor was dispatched around 4:15 a.m. that Wednesday on the report of a camper pulling a utility trailer with no tail lights. It had reportedly been traveling west on East Main Street near Rulers and was “all over the road.” Allor located it near East Main and South Washington streets and initiated the stop. It pulled to the side of the road on North Washington Street.
Bates was the driver of a maroon 1990 Ford box truck pulling a white 1980 enclosed trailer, both with Iowa license plates. Moore was a passenger.
Bates allegedly told the officer they were headed to Springville for a music festival.
Allor checked records and Sgt. Bobby Pierce and Deputy Terry Wade of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and Officer Andrew Duguay and K9 Blitz of the Jasonville Police Department arrived to assist on the scene.
Officer Duguay and K9 Blitz conducted a free air sniff around the vehicle and K9 Blitz alerted for the odor of narcotics. With this probable cause to search the vehicle, officers conducted a search of the vehicle and trailer and Officer Allor reported they found a number of items including methamphetamine, marijuana and paraphernalia.
Both were booked in around 7:30 a.m. and held without bond pending their appearances in court.
Both then appeared in Greene Superior Court yesterday, Monday, August 5, for their initial hearings and both were charged with:
Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony,
Possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and
Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
In both cases, their bond was set at $5,000 cash in full or surety bond with no ten percent cash allowed. As of late Tuesday, they had not yet posted bond and both were still in the Greene County Jail
